Trust and verification

Editorial and verification standards

Speed matters during a developing incident, but accuracy, context, and clear sourcing matter more.

Verification

We compare submissions with official releases, public agency feeds, direct source material, location information, original media, and credible reporting when available. Member submissions remain under review until approved.

Attribution

We identify the agency, outlet, document, public feed, or contributor behind material whenever practical. Links to official sources are provided for decisions involving safety, travel, weather, or public services.

Developing information

Early information can change. Developing stories should be labeled, updated as facts become clearer, and distinguished from confirmed final findings.

Corrections and updates

We correct meaningful factual errors promptly and add a public update note when a change affects the substance of a story. Minor spelling and formatting fixes may be made without a note.
