NJ SNAP BENEFITS INCREASE OCTOBER 1, 2026: NEW AMOUNTS AND PAYMENT DATES

New Jersey households that qualify for SNAP will see higher federal maximum monthly benefit amounts starting October 1, 2026. The new limits apply through September 30, 2027.

For a household of four, the monthly maximum rises from $994 to $1,023—a $29 increase. A one-person household's maximum rises from $298 to $306. These are benefit ceilings, not guaranteed payments: your amount depends on your household's circumstances.

The table compares the federal maximum monthly allotments that apply in New Jersey. The previous amounts cover the benefit year ending September 30, 2026; the new amounts take effect October 1, 2026.

When will October benefits arrive?

October 1 is the effective date for the new maximums. It is not everyone's deposit date. New Jersey generally issues ongoing monthly SNAP benefits during the first five calendar days of the month, according to the seventh digit of your case number.

Warren County exception: all ongoing monthly benefits are issued on the first day of the month. For October 2026, that is Thursday, October 1.

What should you do now?

• Check your Families First EBT balance and most recent deposit on your usual payment date.
• Use the official NJ Families First account service or ConnectEBT app linked by NJ DHS.
• Review any benefit notices you receive. Your approved amount may differ from the maximum in this guide.
• If a deposit or benefit amount appears incorrect, contact the agency handling your SNAP case through the official NJ SNAP website.

Will everyone get the maximum amount?

No. SNAP payments depend on household size, income and other eligibility factors. The amounts listed above are the highest federal monthly allotments for each household size. A higher maximum does not mean every household receives that amount or the same increase.

What about New Jersey's minimum benefit?

New Jersey publishes a $95 minimum monthly SNAP benefit for eligible households, using a state supplement when federal benefits fall below that level. That minimum is separate from the federal maximum amounts in the table. A change in the federal maximum alone does not establish a particular household's payment.
